Each year, May Day morning, is greeted by Raven’s Magic Morris and English country dancers after a sleep-over at the school. The children wake up at 4:45 am to don colorful accents of bells and ribbons, toting flowered large-brim hats and bashing sticks, transforming them into a performance dance team. Arriving at the Rose Garden before sunrise, they join adult Morris teams, garland dancers, and a sword team to witness the first parade (Bromley’s Abbott) and perform in front of an admiring audience delighted by the youngster’s enthusiasm! The music (a full set of accompaniments for such ancient village dancing) is joyful, just the right combination to coax the sun and welcome the month of May. What a wonderful way to continue centuries of community-gathering and springtime celebration. Thank you, Lacey and Hugo, Mary, and David!!!
