The sock critters took on an amazing life! More were being made each day. Studio time was often used now to stitch up an arm, stuff a tummy, or add an eye! After the first animals were made, even adults got in on the excitement and began to make their own, at school and at home. Critters participated in the morning welcome meeting, watched over and whispered their ideas for writing, nudged us to explain our answers, led lives outside school on weekends that begged to be told and written… They became subjects of drawings, object studies, poetry, and adventure tales. They even had play-dates and received gifts from their buddies! The children were very fond of their friends! These little charmers received costumes for Halloween and were celebrated participants in an impromptu parade around the theater building, riding on the newly created “steamroller-turned-parade vehicle!” What a life… what imaginations!
